C. H. Pender Grocery

The C.H. Pender Grocery in Cedar Grove, North Carolina, is a historic structure built in the 1880s. This building, also known as the Allison-Oliver-Pender Store, is part of the Cedar Grove Rural Crossroads Historic District. The store initially served the rural community by providing essential goods and services and even had an addition that functioned as a post office.

The store was significant in the community, both commercially and socially, serving as a place where locals could buy various supplies, pick up their mail, and catch up on news. The Oliver family acquired the store in 1907, and it remained under their ownership when C.H. Pender and his wife Irene Oliver took over in the 1960s.

Today, the C.H. Pender Grocery is abandoned, but it remains an important historical landmark reflecting the rural commercial and social life of its time. The building’s architecture is characteristic of late 19th-century rural stores, making it a notable example within the historic district.

Personal Note: My mom, who loves to take photos as well, and I went to these locations to get these pictures together. It was the first time in a long while that I have been able to get out to take photos due to some sickness. I am doing better now and hoping to get back out more often to take more photos.
